"At Support Saturdays we talk in a very real and sometimes painfully honest way. Sharing with the other women made me feel less alone; I was no longer just another unfortunate breast cancer statistic, but a real person with a rich, full life and a lot of reasons to stay hopeful." Hayley, Support Saturdays participant Women with breast cancer have many practical and emotional needs—nausea, weakness, fear, anxiety to name a few. Being a new mom also raises unique practical and emotional issues such as sleep deprivation, exhaustion, lack of time to yourself or your partner, financial strain and feeling isolated and overwhelmed by the responsibility of caring for a new born. Being a new mom with breast cancer combines two physically and emotionally trying experiences. Rethink Breast Cancer created Support Saturdays to offer specialized counselling for moms, their partners, babies and kids and also connect them with other families just like them who are fighting breast cancer. Support Saturdays includes group therapy for moms, couples workshops and facilitated medical play and expressive arts experiences for kids. Your Adopt A Mom gift of $10 per month provides enduring support to women on their journey through breast cancer. Your gift funds their counselling, covers the childcare during Support Saturdays sessions, provides toys for medical play and activities for creative arts and crafts and gives fresh and healthy food for the program. |
